POPANO BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) – A driver seriously injured was taken to hospital Tuesday after colliding with a Brightline train in Pompano Beach on Tuesday, authorities said.

According to information provided to NBC affiliate WTVJ, the crash occurred near the intersection of West Atlantic Boulevard and North Dixie Highway before 4pm.

Multiple first responders were sent to the scene after receiving the crash words between the train and the vehicle.

According to Pompano Beach police, a collision occurred while the car was on the train tracks, causing the car to land upside down.

The car’s engine block and tires were removed and smashed the window in the city commission’s room, officials said.

The emergency personnel took the vehicle driver to a nearby hospital. As of Tuesday afternoon, there was no further word on the driver’s condition.

The Broward County Sheriff’s Office said deputies are investigating the circumstances surrounding the crash.
