PORT CHARLOTTE, Fla. (WFLA) – On Friday morning, they signed three bills aimed at helping Florida veterans.
He held a press conference at Douglas T. Jacobson State Veterans Nursing Home in Port Charlotte, where he and other supporters discussed the legislation.
Desantis has signed the Act on House Bill 797, “Veterans and Spouse Nursing Beds,” Senate Bill 116, “Veterans” and SB 910, “Veterans Benefits Support.”
HB 797 helps streamline access to health care by allowing certain skilled nursing homes to designate beds specifically for veterans and their spouses, removing “bureaucratic obstacles.”
SB 116 expands its suicide prevention program and directs the state’s VA to develop a statewide plan for an adult medical center dedicated to veterans.
The SB 910 creates new protections to navigate the benefits process by setting more limits and restrictions for benefits advisors.
Friday was an iconic choice for the bill signing ceremony, as June 6th marks the 81st anniversary of D-Day.
“D-day and every day, Florida celebrates people in uniform in our country,” DeSantis said. “We are proud to support three bills today to promote our commitment to veterans. Florida remains the most veteran-friendly state in the country.”
