(Nexstar) – Two months after filing bankruptcy protections, Hooters reportedly closed several locations.
In a court application in late March, Hoa Restaurant Group said Hoaters’ financial difficulties weighed on the company, but intended to keep the restaurant open as they navigate the bankruptcy process.
“Our famous Hooters restaurant is staying here and we are taking action to strengthen our business to provide better service to our valued customers over the long term,” the company said in a notice on its website.
That seems to have changed.
According to reports from Nexstar’s WTVO and WREG, Rockford, Illinois and Memphis, Tennessee locations closed suddenly this week. In a statement obtained by WREG, the company said the Memphis closure was “after careful consideration of what is needed to best position the company for its future.”

The statement shared with Nexstar repeated the same sentiment.
“After carefully considering what is needed to position our company at its best for the future, Hooters made the difficult decision on June 4, 2025 to close certain company-owned locations. A customer of loyalty and dedication to the Hooters brand.”
Nexstar has confirmed that more than two dozen Hooters locations, originally identified by USA Today, have been closed. An automated message plays when each restaurant’s number is called, stating, “This Hooters location is closed forever.”

When I contacted the location of Hooters in Madison, Wisconsin and Fort Smith, Arkansas, the automated messages did not play, but the restaurant is no longer listed on the company’s website.
According to Nexstar reviews, web pages and social media accounts for these Hooters locations have also been deleted.

Founded in Clearwater, Florida in 1983, Hooters has been struggling in recent years. In 2021, the company sold approximately $300 million in asset support bonds, Bloomberg reported. Last summer, Hooters closed several underperforming locations across more than 12 states.
Hooters currently has just over 200 locations in 34 states. The company declined to comment on whether additional closures were planned.
