MIAMI, Fla. (WFLA) – Dozens of detainees in Miami’s Chrome Detention Center gathered in the courtyard on Thursday to spell out “SOS” in protest of President Donald Trump’s efforts to expel the U.S.

In March, the president revoked temporary humanitarian parole for around 300,000 Cubans amid a wave of historic migration from the island, urging the previous Biden administration to cut Cuban immigration.

In Tampa, a Cuban-born mother, still breastfed, was taken into custody in April during her appointment to regularly check-in at the ice office. She was deported two days later.

The video appears as detainees dressed in white gatherings in the courtyard of a detention center spell out a signal of distress with their bodies. They can be seen kneeling, some waving their shirts into the air.

Reports have been poured into the NBC affiliate WTVJ about food and water shortages, medical negligence and unsanitary confinement for people detained at detention centers. However, the Trump administration closed the Department of Homeland Security in April. This was responsible for investigating the claims.
