TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Former Congressman David Jolly announced Thursday that he will be taking part in the Florida Governor race.
Jolie previously represented Florida District 13 as a Republican from 2014 to 2017.
But in the governor race, Jolie runs as a Democratic candidate.
“Let’s end the politics of division and bring Florida back to a voter who wants simply a working economy, a world’s best education system, a safe community, and a government that avoids decisions from doctors’ offices and families,” Jolie said in a news release.
“This is a campaign that focuses on different types of problem-driven outcomes, driven by optimism and solutions, not anger or division,” Jolie said. “We are building a new coalition of Floridians who are deeply caring for our nation and desperate for real answers to the real problems that put our quality of life at stake.”
Jolie is the first Democrat to join the Florida Governor’s race. US Rep. Byron Donald, Surfside Mayor Charles Burkett, and state Sen. Jason Pizzo have already thrown their hats into the race.
