FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. (WFLA) — A Broward County animal control officer was hospitalized last week after being attacked and seriously injured by a dog.

The attack occurred in the 700 block of 14th Terrace on Thursday around 7pm.

According to NBC affiliate WTVJ, animal manager Martina Bernard was doing welfare checks on a mix of American Staffordshire Terriers when the dogs began raiding her.

Police say a neighbor called 911 after hearing the woman cry for help and look at the dog with teeth around her neck.

In body camera video, officers arrive at the scene and find Bernard lying on the ground in a bloody backyard.

Dog owners can also be seen in the video holding the dog down. The dog was stabbed to remove it from Bernard.

The officer can hear the woman asking where she is a little.

Bernard was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center for treatment.

Officers removed the dogs that were taken to Broward County animal care and were later euthanized.
