Orange City, Fla. (WFLA) – Two Florida motorcyclists are recovering after hitting a crocodile sitting in the middle of the Interstate 4 lane over the weekend.

NBC affiliate Wesh spoke to Cameron Gilmore. Cameron Gilmore told him he was on I-4 in the Orange City area when he hit the Gator.

“I looked at it like ten feet in front of me. I thought I just knew. I knew I was going to hit it,” Gilmore said. “It happened a bit faster. I didn’t even have two seconds to do anything. I couldn’t put the brakes on.

He flew away as he hit the Gator.

“I flipped the handlebars over and landed on my head on an I-4 and rolled over,” he said. “Someone said with two or three rolls, you know, after saying your head first, I’ll start flying a long way.”

Gilmore told the news station that he was traveling to Sanford with a group of riders, many of whom ran towards him after the crash.

“My right leg was really paralyzed and hurt,” he added.

WESH reported that a 25-year-old woman from Orange City attacked Gator after Gilmore.

Both Gilmore and the woman were taken to HCA Lake Monroe Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Gilmore said he was fine despite some broken bones and had every intention of returning to his bike.

“No one wants me, but me, yeah, I will. I’m not scared,” he said.

Wesh reported that the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Board was dispatched to support injured crocodiles. The status of the gator is unknown.
