Brightline will quickly cut prices for new frequent rider passes – Orlando Sentinel

Less than two weeks after Brightline announced its new pass program for riders, the Miami-based rail line has reduced prices for several categories after the company received “guest feedback.”

Brightline announced its price cuts last Friday after rolling out the program just 10 days ago to replace the one that retired in 2024. The new program will provide travelers with 10, 20 or 40 rides for their trip at five South Florida stops in West Palm Beach, Boca Raton, Fort Raderdale, Aventera and Miami. Only 10 ride passes were offered for trips between South Florida and Central Florida Station at Orlando International Airport.

The pass can be used to earn points towards Brightline Rewards, the railroad’s new loyalty program launched in March.

On Monday, the company did not immediately answer questions about whether passengers had completely rejected their original pricing schedule, ranging from $239 for a 10th pass in Miami and Fort Lauderdale (including Aventella) to $899 for a 40-ride pass between West Palm Beach and Miami.

The latest changes include:

From Fort Lauderdale to Miami (including Aventera): The price of the 20 ride pass will be reduced from $449 to $429. The 40 ride pass will be reduced from $699 to $499. From West Palm Beach to Miami (including Boca Raton, Fort Lauderdale and Aventura): 20 ride passes range from $549 to $529. The 40 ride pass will be reduced from $899 to $599.

The only pass offered for travel between South and Central Florida, the Orlando trip’s 10 ride pass remains the same at $799.

Brightline said in a statement last Friday that the number of available passes for sale is limited to “while supply continues.” They are non-transferable and can only be used by the buyer.

“South Florida Passes are valid for up to 30 days from purchase, and Orlando will pass from 60 days from purchase. “Pass holders can be booked up to 7 days before the departure of a ride in South Florida, and up to 60 days before for rides, including Orlando.”

The railway also said it could get unlimited parking at stations in South Florida, with a 50% reduction of $62.50 a month in the summer via monthly parking pass through August 15th.

Capacity challenges

Brightline struggled to increase ridership along the 170-mile extension from West Palm Beach to Orlando. After launching the new service in September 2023, the company cancelled its original pass program, which gained strong support among commuters in South Florida, allowing it to focus on adding capacity to the Central Florida segment.

Since then, the railway has been delivering additional coaches, allowing for an increased length of the train set.

Brightline carried nearly 2.8 million passengers last year, up 35% in 2023. However, the company recorded a net loss of $548.7 million in 2024.
