Tampa City provides the latest updates on road cave repairs after hurricanes

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – On Wednesday morning, Tampa City officials will provide updates on efforts to fix road caves caused by last year’s hurricane.

This comes after multiple neighbors reach for an 8 at your side.

The city said there were hundreds of road caves after the hurricane.

“It’s a mini sinkhole. So it’s going down the road,” the resident said.

“I hear about potholes every day, and that’s the biggest problem I’ve heard from constituents,” said City Councilman Bill Carson.

In February, the city told your side there were eight holes on your side.

Previously reported locations include Estrella Street, Howard Avenue and West Wallcraft Avenue.

“So there was a pylon and a sign above it, and no one seemed to fix the hole,” Scott Lachinski said.

After that, some people began to see the results.

“All I can say is I’m certainly happy it was over and I was very surprised it took place soon,” Latchinski said.

Wednesday’s meeting comes as the city detailed its efforts to fill these holes, saying about 400 new holes appear each year.

Wastewater Director Eric Weiss said many of these holes are caused by aging wastewater pipes in the tampa, and it takes time to fix them.

“If we have a wastewater cave, most of our pipes are 5-10 feet deep, so we can get our drilling equipment, go over the pipes, repair the wastewater pipes, then get some other stuff,” he said.

The meeting will be streamed live on the video player above.
