Monk’s Florida District after a mysterious semi-truck caused $400,000 damage

Police say the mysterious 18-wheeler driver made a $400,000 smash in a Florida neighborhood, dragging the car, flattened the fence and knocked down the power pole.

Then, like a ghost, it erased the way.

It happened just after 8am on Sunday in Cape Coral, and police are still searching for the truck and its driver.

“With witnesses reported hearing a major conflict and then the blackouts continued in the area,” Cape Coral Police wrote in a May 19 news release.

“In a preliminary investigation, a large commercial semi-truck struck a utility line, continuing to travel west along the Tropicana Parkway, dragging the line behind it. The damage spanned multiple homes and vehicles. The semi-truck driver escaped.”

Six utility poles were flattened, and “several parking vehicles were dragged across the garden and numerous fences were damaged,” police said.

Photos shared on Facebook show that the truck actually went through the yard when it hit the fence and pole.

Six utility poles were flattened, and “several parking vehicles were dragged across the garden and numerous fences were damaged,” police said.

The resulting blackouts have been expanded on multiple blocks, police said.

No injuries have been reported by police, but the “scope of destruction” has prompted the department to accompany property crime detectives to accompany traffic homicide investigators, police said.

Images from the traffic cameras show the truck taxi was yellow and transporting a white refrigerated trailer, officials said. Police said they were last seen heading north on Burnt Store Road.

“Part of the roof of the trailer was torn apart and recovered at Tropicana Parkway, just west of the first crash site,” police said.
