(Nexstar) – There were a lot of Liam and Olivias born last year, but there were far more in Colorado and Florida than in Wisconsin and Wyoming.
Liam and Olivia were two of the most popular names nationwide, but that trend wasn’t true in all 50 states. In 2024, states in the US had their own trendy, popular names, according to new data released by the Social Security Agency, which tracks all births in the US.
For example, in California, all the top 10 girls names end with an A. The 10 most popular names in Golden State include those that are under the radar nationwide, such as Gianna (for girls) and Santiago (for boys).

In Alabama, old-fashioned classic names like William, John and James dominate boys. Meanwhile, in Hawaii, Kai and Kaia were both ranked very highly, but rather rare in other states.
Nova is ultra-trendy in Georgia (11 of all girls born last year) but is less common nationwide (No. 39 in 2024).

The agency is also tracking which names are rapidly gaining popularity, even if they are still outside the top 20. In the past year, Cerez, Corsen and Briar have been the most up in the boys rank, while Iranie, Iranie and Marjorie have made big jumps on girls.
