NEW YORK (AP) – Ford recalls about 274,000 people from Lincoln brand navigator SUVs across the US and Lincoln brand navigator SUVs due to issues that could cause loss of braking function while driving and increase the risk of crashes.
According to documents issued by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the front brake lines of these currently envisaged cars may be “in contact” with the engine air cleaner outlet pipe due to potential installation defects. This can result in brake fluid leakage and loss of brake function.
The recall covers 223,315 expeditions and 50,474 navigators between the 2022-2024 model year. Ford expects only 1% of these vehicles to be defective, according to a recall report on Friday.
Although Ford is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to the recall, the Michigan-based auto giant had received a 45 warranty report for leaks in the front brake line as of April 17th.
As a remedy, Ford and Lincoln dealers will inspect the front brake lines of the impacted vehicle and replace the air cleaner outlet pipes for free if necessary. Dealer Notifications are scheduled to begin Wednesday, and the recall report has been set to be mailed between May 26th and May 30th.
In the meantime, drivers can also check if a particular vehicle is included in this recall and find more information using the NHTSA site or Ford recall search. The company number for this recall is 25S47.
A shocked driver could experience an increase in pedal travel, NHSTA documents warn. This means that the pedal needs to be pushed hard to apply the brakes. Additionally, if the brake line is leaking, the liquid level will drop over time. A potentially red brake warning indicator lights up.
A Ford spokesman had no additional comment when contacted by the Associated Press on Wednesday.
