The ad says the president’s trade policy “punishes families,” pointing to a shortage of school backpacks and possibly Christmas toys.
California Gov. Gavin Newsom aimed at President Donald Trump’s tariff policy in a new 30-second ad that aired on Fox and Friends over the weekend.
The newspapers claim that tariffs could harm the flow of schools and cause empty shelves in shops during the time of returning to school or during Christmas.
“These tariffs will punish families and risk ending America’s run as the world’s largest economy,” says Newsmom. “Take it from California: we’re the ones who lead it.”
“No state is ready to lose anything more than California,” he says.
Funded by Newsom’s 2022 Governor’s Campaign account, the ad continues to criticise recent tariffs.
In the initial release of the ad, social media users pointed out that footage from Ukraine and Estonia rather than California, and that the ads will be removed from Newsom’s X account and replaced with an updated version.
The lawsuit states that the president’s use of international emergency economic forces is illegal because it allows the president to not impose tariffs.
“President Trump’s illegal tariffs are causing disruption to California families, businesses and our economy. It’s price hikes and threatening work,” Newsmom said at a news conference. “We’re standing up for American families who can’t afford to continue the chaos.”
Meanwhile, Newsom has called for the president to help the film industry with a $7.5 billion federal tax credit.
His efforts came after President Trump posted about the true society that other countries use incentives to attract filmmakers abroad.
“Instead of focusing on California’s ramp-prolonged crime, homelessness and affordable nature, Gavin Newsom is spending his time ultimately dealing with the national emergency of our country’s sustained commodity trade disruptions, trying to block President Trump’s historic efforts,” Desai said.
“The entire Trump administration is committed to tackling the emergency situation in this country that destroys American industry and allows for free use of all tools, from tariffs to negotiation.”
