She was arrested by the FBI in April.
Milwaukee County Circuit Judge Hannah Dugan was charged by the Federal University Ju Trial on May 13 after being arrested and charged last month for helping illegal immigrants avoid immigration and customs enforcement (ICE).
Her indictment comes after she was arrested by the FBI on April 25th and subsequently suspended from her duties as a judge by the Wisconsin Supreme Court.
The reserve judge works for her.
The large ju trial reviewed the charges filed in the complaint as a check on the prosecutor’s power and determined that there was sufficient possible cause to continue the case.
Dugan faces counts of “interfering or obstructing a lawsuit in front of a department or agency” and “hiding an individual to prevent his discovery and arrest.”
If convicted on both counts, she could be held in prison for up to six years.
Her next court appearance was previously scheduled for May 15th, and she could face more disciplinary action against her license to practice the law.
According to her defense attorney, she hopes to maintain her innocence and be proven in court.
FBI agents and deportation officers had planned to arrest Flores Lewis after the hearing.
However, the affidavit said that upon learning of the arrest party’s arrival, Dugan was “visibly upset, confrontational and angry.”
They argued that Dugan “escorts” Flores Lewis and his lawyers “who has “leaved through the judge’s door” and leads to the court’s non-public territories through the “judgment door.” The ry court door is usually only used when the defendant is under the control of an agent.
Another officer noticed Flores Lewis and his lawyers were on the elevator and warned the arrest team, according to the affidavit.
Flores Lewis was arrested after chasing his foot outside the courthouse.
FBI director Kash Patel said investigators believed Dugan “intentionally misdirected federal agent” from Flores-Ruiz as officers were preparing to arrest him in the court where the judge works.
The Dugan case is one of several things that arise as it focuses on the Trump administration, which focuses on crackdowns on illegal immigration and its commitment to ensure that all illegal immigrants are deported.
