Universal Volcano Bay cuts Taputap and sets up temporary closure

Universal Orlando water park Volcano Bay will abandon its wearable technology, known as Taputapu, later this year, the company announced Tuesday.

The free wristband device, which has been in use since the park debuted in 2017, holds reservations for the Kurakatau Aqua Coaster, one of the volcanic bay centerpiece slides, warning you when to enter the physical line and opens rental lockers. According to a news release from Universal Orlando, the attraction will no longer use Taputap as of October 1st.

The change will “have access to the attraction queues in their leisure time,” the release said.

Universal has also announced the months of closure of Volcano Bay, which begins on October 26th, 2026. It said downtime will be used to carry out annual maintenance on several unknown attractions and areas within the park. The planned reopening is set for prior to March 24th, 2027.

Universal extends previews of the epic universe to the public

“We are working with guests who have purchased tickets to visit Volcano Bay during this time slot and with universal year and seasonal pass holders affected by this update,” the release states.

Earlier this year, Universal introduced a separate ticket-certified, after-hours event called Volcano Bay Nights. The three dates in May cost $99 per person.
