US lawyer Edward Martin Jr. contacted the medical journal about alleged bias.
Federal prosecutors sent a letter to another medical journal, the New England Journal of Medicine said on April 23.
The journal received a letter from the District of Columbia’s U.S. Lawyers’ Office, a spokeswoman told the Epoch Times via email.
Dr. Eric Rubin, who works at Brigham and Women’s Hospital and editor-in-chief of the journal, responded to the letter by telling the office that the journal “publishes evidence-based scientific information that doctors can trust to provide high-quality medical care.”
Rubin writes that the editors of the journal, who are all practice physicians, “are aware of our responsibility to physicians and patients,” and “using rigorous peer review and editing processes to ensure the objectivity and reliability of the research we publish.”
He concluded: “We support the editorial independence of medical journals and their right to initial revision to free expression. The journal actively nurtures academic scientific dialogue and maintains its commitment to supporting authors, readers and patients.”
The spokeswoman did not respond when asked about the contents of the letter from the US Lawyer’s Office led by Edward Martin Jr.
He requested answers to a series of questions, including how journal leadership assesses responsibility for “protecting the public from misinformation” and whether journals accept articles from competing perspectives.
Several other journals, including Nature, supported Trump’s enemy Joe Biden in 2020 and Kamala Harris in 2024.
