DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida officials attacked college students on skateboarding and sent the 19-year-old to hospital on Tuesday, according to a report by NBC affiliate WESH.

The victim is reportedly a student at Embry Riddle Aviation College in Daytona Beach.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, a marked Daytona Beach Police Patrol officer was moving south along Clyde Morris Boulevard in the outer lane, approaching Richard Petty Boulevard.

As officers passed the intersection in green light, the university student entered the skateboard road and was unable to succumb to the approaching traffic, Wesh reported.

The student was hit by a car and taken to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. According to FHP, the officer was not injured.

The crash is under investigation.
