Cape Coral, Fla. (WFLA) — A Florida man has been arrested after leading an officer in a 30-mile pursuit on an ATV, Cape Coral police said.

On Sunday evening, officers responded to the Cape Coral home about weapons disorders that could possibly be domestic violence-related. The call showed that the man was drinking, armed with a knife, poses a threat.

Police say the man identified as 44-year-old Damion Scott Stafford escaped from his home on an ATV. The officer set the boundary after finding Stafford Driving on a red ATV without the lights.

Despite Stafford chasing him in a fully activated police car, Stafford escaped at 80 mph through residential areas and main roads for about 25 minutes.

Video shot on the officer’s dash camera shows Stafford raising his hand, gestures his gun, throwing a large knife behind him. The 12-inch fixed blade knife was later found on the road.

Police chased Stafford for 30 miles, crashed the ATV and turned it over, then landed on the embankment on the left side. The K-9 was deployed after the suspect refused to show his hand to the officers.

Stafford was arrested on charges that included a convicted felon of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, escape and evasion, reckless driving, DUI and possession of concealed weapons.

WFLA.com is seeking additional information.
