SOUTH FULTON, Ga. — Two police officers are injured and the suspect is killed in a shootout just south of Atlanta.

Just before noon, Fulton County police officers had seen someone near the motel and demanded help, police said. Lt. Colonel Charles Cook arrived along with the South Fulton police station, and the suspect began shooting as soon as Cook left the car, South Fulton Police Chief Keith Meadows told reporters.

At least one officer returned the fire and the suspect was fatally wounded, but it was not immediately clear which officer shot and killed the man, Meadows said.

Cook was attacked three times and was in danger at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, Meadows said. Fulton County police officers whose names were not released immediately were minor injuries.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called to investigate the shooting. This is the standard procedure for shootings involving officers.
