The third unnamed Marine remains in critical condition at the University Medical Hospital in El Paso, Texas.

The 1st Marine Division announced the identities of the two Marines who died after a vehicle crashed along the tropical border on April 15th.

Lance Albert Aguilera, 22, from Riverside, California, and Premier Lance Marcelino Gamanino, from Fresno, California, joined the fleet movement near Santa Teresa, New Mexico.

The military’s deportation flights departed from the base, and Aguilera and Gamanino were there to support joint forces at the Southern border as part of the 1st Battle Engineer Battalion after President Donald Trump took control of the area known as the Roosevelt Reservation. It is federally owned land along the US-Mexico border in New Mexico, Arizona and California.

“The complexity of the current situation calls for our military to play a more direct role in securing a southern border than in the recent past,” the president’s memo said.

Aguilera enlisted in March 2023 and was promoted to Head of Lance Corp in May 2024.

Gamano joined the army in May 2022 and won the Lance Corporal promotion in August 2024. He was deployed in Darwin, Australia with the Marine Rotating Force in 2024 and was awarded the National Defense Services Medal and the SEA Service Deployment Ribbon.

The man was taken to University Medical Hospital in El Paso, Texas, along with the injured Third Marines. The 1st Marine Division has announced that it has been declared that two people have died in the hospital. The 3rd Marine, who has not yet been named, remains in a state of crisis.

“Lance Cpl. Aguilera and Lance Cpl. The loss of Gamino is deeply felt by all of us,” said U.S. Marine Lt. Col. Tyron A. Barion, commander of the 1st Combat Engineer Battalion and task force Sapper.

“I will spread my heartfelt sadness and prayers to the families of my brothers who have fallen. Our top priority now is to ensure that their families and the Marines affected by their deaths will be fully supported during this difficult time.”

News of their deaths were announced on April 15th, but their identity remained private until the next relative of the Marine Corps was notified.

“It was very sad to learn of the tragic accident that took the lives of two heroes of our country and the lives of another person yesterday,” the Secretary of Defense wrote on social media platform X on April 16th.

Juliette Fairley contributed to this report.
