Below is an official statement from the US Lawyer’s Office in the Central Region of Florida about a Tampa man who was declared an armed robbery of a postal worker.

TAMPA, Fla. — Senior US District Judge Charlene Honeywell has sentenced Darene Underwood (20, Tampa) to 10 years and five months in federal prison to swing a firearm in connection with an armed robbery of a postal postal carrier and its crime. The court also ordered Underwood to pay the postal carrier $1,531.99 in compensation.

According to court documents, on September 5, 2023, a postal mail carrier in the U.S. was delivering mail to an apartment in the Tampa area when he was approached by Underwood and Jordan Murray, who were wearing masks and gloves. Murray and Underwood forcefully filmed the mailman’s mail key while swinging firearms around. Murray and Underwood then drove into the vehicle and left the crime scene. The investigation reveals that Brown will be paid to drive Underwood by robber and Murray.

Jordan Murray (20, Tampa) and Jordan Brown (21, Tampa) pleaded guilty to their role in this case. Murray was sentenced to nine years and six months in federal prison for armed robbery and swinging a firearm in connection with the crime. Brown was sentenced to two years and six months in federal prison for helping with theft of his postal key, and was sentenced to the use of a firearm during the crime.

The incident was investigated by the U.S. Postal Service and the Hillsboro County Sheriff’s Office. He was indicted by US lawyer Aide Irissa M. Spergel.
