Plantation, Fla. (WFLA) – Human remains found in a submerged car in a Florida pond over the weekend may be linked to the disappearance of a woman who disappeared 25 years ago.

NBC affiliate WTVJ reported that the vehicle was found to be submerged in about 13 feet of water in a pond near West Sunrise Boulevard and Flamingo Road on Sunday.

Sunshine State Sonor told the news station that he believes the car belongs to Libby Ann Dibenenedetto, the mother of three who disappeared in 2000 after spending the night with friends in Davy.

The body of a Florida woman was found hidden in a man’s resort hotel room, deputies say

Plantation police told WTVJ the vehicle is linked to the 25-year-old missing person case, but it is waiting for the body to be identified.

WTVJ reported that Sunshine State Sonar began a search for Dibenedetto in July 2022. The group searched nearly 400 water bodies in Broward County, investigating her cases and more.

“Our thoughts and prayers go out to Libby’s family during this difficult time,” the group said in a Facebook post.
