DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) – A woman has been handed over to Florida after being accused of scaming a resident of $52,000 on the Facebook Marketplace scheme.
The Volusia County Sheriff’s Office has posted a video of Sheriff Mike Chitwood facing Michigan resident Demetoria Latimer at the airport.

“We don’t like residents to be victims of fraud,” Chitwood said.
“Well, I’m a victim,” replied Latimer.
Latimer was accused of stealing $52,000 from Orange City residents for fake sales of excavators in the Facebook market. VCSO used bank records to track activity on Latimers who live outside of Detroit.

“We may believe that Demetria played an important role in washing money not only from the victims, but perhaps others around the country,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a Facebook post.
The VCSO said financial crime detectives have recovered the victim’s lost money.
“Welcome to Florida,” Chitwood told Latimer before handing her over to the detective.
