HOMESTED, Fla. (WFLA) — Miami-Dade’s agent is on the wrong side of the law following an arrest related to a domestic violence case with his wife, a report from NBC affiliate WTVJ said.

Anthony Zayas, 39, faces battery charges after visiting the winery and brewery in Schneble Redland, Homestead, after allegedly involved in an oral dispute with his wife in a vehicle.

WTVJ said Zayas slammed his wife into the face several times when the conflict escalated. Zayas “strongly” pushed her out the passenger door and hit the ground as she tried to get out of the car.

The victim called police for help and was taken to a nearby hospital with scuffs on his shoulder, face and hands, with bruised teeth on his upper lip and shoulder, reported.

In a statement obtained by WTVJ, Miami-Dade Sheriff Rosie Koldero Statz said:

I am angry and deeply disappointed that I arrested one of my agents for domestic violence. For individuals engaged in such behavior, there is absolutely no place in this institution or our profession. Law enforcement officers must be examples of integrity, respect and accountability. Both in uniform and in personal life. For victims of domestic violence, I am completely committed to standing with you and supporting you.

Zayas was charged with a two-count battery after being arrested on April 6th, according to court records. He was detained from prison on Monday and ordered to stay away from the victim.

WFLA.com contacted the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office for comment.
