SeaWorld Orlando theme park reports its 1,000th manatee rescue

SeaWorld Orlando has announced that it has recorded 1,000 manatee rescues.

“Manatees are an iconic part of Florida’s ecosystem and we are honored to play an important role in their conservation,” Park President John Peterson said in a news release. “We rescue and rehabilitate these animals, and hopefully we don’t just save individual lives, but we also encourage our guests to join in protecting these amazing creatures.”

In 2024, SeaWorld was able to rescue 61 manatees and rehabilitate 38 manatees and return them.

Since 1976, the Sea World Orlando rescue team has operated one of three key care facilities in the United States to deal with manatees who are struggling due to boat strikes, entanglement, cold stress and other life-threatening conditions. The park maintains a five-acre wildlife rescue centre that includes sea turtles, birds and other marine animals. Park guests can see the manatees at the Manatee and Turtle Rescue Centre on the north side of SeaWorld between the Dolphin Meet and Coral Rescue Facilities.

SeaWorld also educates the public on manatee conservation, through partnerships with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and other community outreach efforts.
