TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – A Florida man scheduled for execution on April 8 at the Florida State Jail on April 8 has demanded delays in his execution, according to court documents.

Michael Tanji, 48, was charged with first-degree murder of Jane Acosta on May 16, 2000.

According to court documents, Tanji was charged with carjacking with weapons, lures to promote felony with weapons, robbery armed with deadly weapons, and promoting two counts of sexual battery with lethal weapons.

On March 10, 2025, Governor Ron DeSantis signed Tanji’s death warrant and scheduled his execution at 6pm on April 8th

Florida responded to his execution stay and said Tanji needed to show “there is a considerable basis for the possibility that relief could be given.” Tanji doesn’t provide anything.

Gov. DeSantis promises to give Floridians tax relief: “We’re going to do that.”

Florida also said Tanji had no right to relief for his “fast, procedural, unfounded, and speculative fatal injection claims” that were “focused on his excess weight.”

According to court documents, the victims of Tanji’s crimes are seeking the finality of his sentence and timely enforcement.

“It’s time for Tanji’s death sentence to be executed. His move for his execution stay should be denied,” Florida said.
