Seminole County, Fla. (WFLA) – A bear was found sleeping in a tree next to Florida Middle School Monday morning.

NBC affiliate WESH reported that the bear caused a disturbance at Markham Woods Middle School in Lake Mary. It was seen in a tree dropping a loop on a tree near a student at the school.

“Law enforcement is watching animals for movement and is communicating with Florida fish and wildlife. They are on the way to deal with this situation,” school principal Dr. Jason McDonald told his parents.

Florida’s Fish and Wildlife Conservation Board told Wesh that wildlife officials were monitoring the bears.

“The bear is likely to be in the trees to find a safe place away from people and activities, and will likely descend on its own and move along with it if space is given,” the FWC said in a statement to Wesh.
