MIAMI, Fla. (WFLA) – A multi-vehicle crash on a South Florida highway injured four people and had to airlift their children Friday.

Just after 1pm, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to a US-1 crash near Mile Marker 121, revealing four people injured.

Authorities have called pediatric trauma alerts to move children involved in the crash to a nearby trauma center for injuries.

The US-1 was temporarily closed in both directions to allow medical transport via helicopters and ambulances.

The crash occurred in the area of the Miami-Dade Brush Fire, where crews have been fighting since Tuesday. According to NBC affiliate WTVJ, the wildfire size has grown to over 26,000 acres and has closed several major roads, including the US-1.

On Friday evening, WTVJ reported 50% of the fire.

Miami’s National Weather Service issued a warning for southeastern winds arriving Friday evening.
