Adam Cohen saw the update in a LinkedIn post last week.
An official from the US Department of Justice (DOJ), who oversaw the task force on organized crime and drug trafficking, said he was fired last week.
“I received a two-letter memo from the Deputy Attorney General (DAG) addressed to me,” Cohen said. “I have been excluded from my senior executive services position and stated that I have ended my employment with the US Department of Justice in accordance with Article 2 of the Constitution.”
Cohen said he was shocked by the fire.
“I met acting DAG every Tuesday evening (including three days ago) and talked about important violent crime initiatives,” he said. “I spent last weekend editing a memorandum sent under the DAG signature 18 hours before my firing.”
Elsewhere in the March 8 post, Cohen suggested that politics may have played a role.
“My personal politics never had any relevance. Until yesterday,” he wrote. “Putting the bad guys into prison was just as apolitical as it gets.”
Blanche, a former lawyer for President Donald Trump at the New York City Criminal Trial, was confirmed as deputy attorney general by a US Senator on March 5th. Emil Beaube, a former Trump lawyer who worked in the same case, served as deputy attorney general in acting abilities before Blanche took over.
The Epoch Times contacted the DOJ for comments but did not receive a response for each publishing time.
“It’s sad to share that I was fired today from a job I’ve put my heart and soul into for the past three years,” she wrote in a statement on a social media site. “We are very proud of the team we have built in the office of pardon lawyers where we continue our important work. We are very grateful to the many extraordinary people who have had the opportunity to connect with us on this journey. We appreciate your partnership, your support, and your belief in your second chance.”
Oyer’s previous office reviews generous requests from those convicted of federal crimes and makes recommendations to the White House that the president should allow.
The end is the latest example of the Trump administration removing career DOJ officials, usually maintaining positions throughout the presidential administration.
Trump-appointed officials previously reassigned several veteran national security and criminal prosecutors to the newly established Immigration Bureau. After facing similar reallocations, top career ethics officials left the Department of Justice.
Trump has been critical of DOJ in recent years and has accused him of targeting people for political reasons. The former president himself was charged in two separate jurisdictions for election-related and classified document requests by former special advisor Jack Smith.
“The Justice Department has imprisoned an individual for posting political memes,” Trump ordered. “And the Department of Justice has relentlessly indicted more than 1,500 individuals related on January 6th, and at the same time deleted almost all cases against (Black Lives Matter) Rioters.”
