Marathon, FL (WFLA) – A 200-pound sea turtle named JP Saul was released Thursday after recovering from a flipper cutting.
JP Saul was discovered by two fishermen who were caught in a stone trap at the Seven Mile Bridge in the marathon.
The fisherman called Turtle Hospital for assistance.
According to Turtle Hospital, JP had serious entanglement injuries to the flipper on the front right.
She was treated with board-spectrum antibiotics, liquids, painkillers, class 4 laser treatment, honey, DMSO massage and serious wound care, Till Hospital said.
“Our medical team did everything they could to try to save JP’s injured flippers, including Leech Therapy. Unfortunately, the flippers had to be amputated,” Turtle Hospital said in a statement.
JP had a “amazing recovery” and was returned to sea with the help of the US Coast Guard.
