Removal of the Deputy Governor’s Office

Lawmakers can make constitutional amendments to abolish Florida’s Lieutenant Governor’s Office in the 2026 state vote.

Lawmakers are also considering creating government efficiency committee members as cabinet positions. This individual has the authority to audit, investigate and report fraud, waste and abuse only within the enforcement departments of the state government and the county, municipalities and special districts.

Florida time limits have been extended to other offices

State legislators will address the issue of enforcing time limits for county commissioners and school board members. This will also be added as a constitutional amendment next year. Voters decide whether the eight-year period limit is long enough. In 2022, the governor signed a law restricting the membership of the school board to 12 years. In 2023, lawmakers and the governor dropped that number to eight.

And voters decide to limit lawmakers to eight years in the Senate and House of Representatives, respectively, to prevent them from traveling between legislative bodies.

No stupid bills

“This house means business,” says Daniel Perez, Florida House Speaker. He warned other lawmakers to focus on real issues rather than “empty gestures.” The speaker said this year he wanted to see issues like waste reduction, insurance, housing, education and more.
