MIAMI (WFLA) – Miami Beach police head into the sky to crack down on a rough spring break crowd.

According to a report from NBC’s affiliate WTVJ, the new Airborne First Responder, the Skydio x10 drone, is the first in Florida.

Police said the drone could see bird eyes anywhere in town within a minute of launch.

“We can provide data in real time and use it to make important decisions on the ground for police officers,” said police chief Wayne Jones.

The new drones are just one of the tools police use to keep an eye on things in the new “real-time intelligence centre” with over 800 cameras installed throughout the city. Miami Beach Mayor Stephen Miner said the city will give South Florida the “best technique” to address potential issues when thousands of spring breaks come down.

“We set a tone of law and order. People are looking at us on how to achieve safety, reduce crime and crack down on spring break, and the timing of coming closer to spring break to deploy these initiatives is perfect,” Miner said. “My goal is to make Miami Beach the safest city in America. We’re on our way.”

This comes as City leaders launched a campaign during the season that announced they were “removing spring break” after years of chaos and violence.
