TALLAHASSY, Fla. (AP) — A man convicted of luring a woman in Miami and later strangled her is scheduled to be executed next month under Death Warrant Gov. Ron Desantis, signed Monday.
Michael Tansy, 48, is scheduled to be executed April 8th at Florida State Jail.
Janet Acosta was sitting in a parked van in April 2000, when Tanji attacked her and threatened her with a razor blade. Tansy tied up the women, monkeyed and began heading towards the Florida keys of the van. At one point, Tanji sexually assaulted Acosta and used his bank card to steal the money from the ATM.
Tansy eventually drove into isolated Cajo’s key area, where she strangled Acosta and left her body, officials said. He then headed to Key West to visit his friend. As Tanji was passing through the key, Acosta’s friends reported that she had gone missing. Police recognized the woman’s van and arrested Tanji.
Tanzi’s execution will be the third state so far this year. James Dennis Ford died in February after killing a couple in Charlotte County in 1997. Edward James is scheduled to be executed on March 20th for murdering a woman in Seminole County in 1993 and raping and killing her 8-year-old granddaughter.
