WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump used his speech in a joint session of Congress on Tuesday to announce a 13-year-old brain cancer survivor named DJ, a new member of the US Secret Service.
Trump said DJ Daniel, a boy wearing a Houston police uniform and sitting with his father in the House gallery for a speech, always dreamed of becoming a police officer.
“In 2018, the DJ was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The doctor gave him the best five months. That was over six years ago,” Trump clapped loudly from the room.
Since then, Trump said the DJ had been sworn in as an honorary law enforcement officer multiple times.
“The police department loves him, and tonight, DJ, we’re giving you the greatest honor of all of them. We’re asking new Secret Service Director Sean Curran to represent the Secret Service in the United States.”
The boy’s eyes grew in surprise, and his father lifted him up. Curran handed him what appeared to be a secret service qualification. The boy held up for the crowd to see, and soon he held a hug around Karan’s shoulder.
