YouTube TV subscribers lose Paramount Channel after halting contract negotiations

Starting February 14th, YouTube TV subscribers will not be able to access Paramount channels such as CBS and CBS Sports if they have not reached their new contract.

YouTube TV and Paramount Global failed to reach a renewal agreement, leaving the streaming television platform subscribers without several channels.

In an update posted to the website on February 12th, YouTube TV warns customers of Paramount Channels (not available since February 14th), including CBS and CBS Sports, BET, Comedy Central, MTV, Nickelodeon and others I did.

“We have worked hard to reach a fair agreement with Paramount that allows subscribers to maintain their channel on YouTube TV without giving them additional costs,” the company said.

“Unfortunately, despite all sincere negotiations, we have not yet succeeded.”

Meanwhile, in a statement provided to the Epoch Times, a spokesman for Paramount said YouTube TV is trying to pressure the company to accept “unilateral terms” and “non-market demands.” , said YouTube is still in the process of negotiating for the future.

“We have made a series of fair offers to continue our long-standing relationship with Google’s YouTube TV, and have subscribers access to the full array of Paramount entertainment, news and sports programming,” the statement said. Please read it.

If you are unable to reach a transaction, YouTube TV will provide subscribers with a $8 credit if Paramount content is unavailable for a long period of time.

YouTube TV highlights Paramount as a “critical partner,” noting that users can access shows and movies by signing up for Paramount+ Streaming Service, which starts at $7.99 a month.

Meanwhile, in a recent memo to employees reviewed by the Epoch Times, Paramount co-CEOS George Cheeks, Chris McCarthy and Brian Robbins have announced that the company’s “actual performance to maintain its premium portfolio of entertainment, news and sports networks.” I spoke.”

In the past, YouTube TV faces disagreements in other contract distributions, including revoking subscriber access to channels such as ESPN, ABC, FX, and more, including a two-day power outage in a dispute with Disney in 2021. I’m doing it.

As of February 2024, YouTube TV has over 8 million subscribers, and is considered to be the country’s largest internet-developed pay-TV service.

In December, the company increased its monthly subscription price by $10 from $72.99 to $82.99. The service has more than doubled its original $35 price at 2017 launch.
