PENSACOLA, Fla. (WFLA) — After an investigation by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, the woman is charged with 72 counts of petition fraud and perjury.

According to the release, FDLE began an investigation in January 2023 when agents received information from the Escambia County election supervisor on what appears to be many fraudulent petitions related to constitutional amendments regarding the use of marijuana.

Fdle said 38 fraud petitions have been filed by the rallies of the smart and secure Florida pay petition identified by Sonia Humphreys, 24. Additionally, the 24-year-old was found to be a paid petitioner in several counties in northern Florida.

During the investigation, FDLE agents also contacted the election’s Santa Rosa County supervisors asking about additional petitions filed by Humphreys.

The supervisor notified investigators of 34 additional petitions that Humphreys filed using fictitious names.

On January 29, 2024, the Santa Rosa County Sheriff’s Office arrested Humphries on charges of 38 count petition fraud and 38 count perjury.

She will also face charges for not competing in the Santa Rosa County Court hearing.
