BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) – South Florida beaches were closed over the weekend after officials discovered a tar wash sphere.
Black substances were reported at beaches in Palm Beach and Broward County. It created a sticky situation for beach fans.

“I walked over and there were gloves on the sand,” Boynton Beach snorkeler Nathan Sabert told NBC’s affiliate WPTV.
A Red Flag warning has been posted on Fort Lauderdale Beach, warning you that you may encounter dangerous situations if you enter the water.
“When we first came here, there was a strange black earth on the beach, and I really didn’t know. They said, “Everyone is out of the water, out of the water,” and we “What is that for?” And they said, “Yeah, that’s the ’cause of oil,'” a Fort Lauderdale beach fan told NBC’s affiliate WTVJ.
The U.S. Coast Guard said it is aware of the incident and is working with the Environmental Protection Agency to determine where the Tar is coming from.
