JFRD officials told NBC affiliate WTLV that drivers must be extracted from the semi-finals after colliding with a building that was almost 100 years ago. The crew were worried that the roof would collapse for the seriously injured driver.
Surveillance camera video appeared to show cicadas that had hit a pickup truck before they hit the building. No one was inside the building at the time of the crash.
The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office is investigating the incident.
