JUPITER, Fla. (WFLA) – The suspect accused of stealing a gorgeous yacht was eventually arrested Monday after attempting to avoid law enforcement in a Florida waterway.
The Martin County Sheriff’s Office has begun its pursuit of a stolen, gorgeous yacht, 66 feet. A man was traveling along a waterway in space as he escaped from authorities.

The Dockmaster reported a boat stolen from the marina of Jupiter’s blowing rocks, urging lawmakers to take a patrol ship and surround the yacht.
“Martin County ground units, marine forces, SWAT team members and criminal investigators are all located and ready to board the vessel,” the sheriff’s office originally posted on Facebook.
Three hours later, officials announced that the suspect, the Russian national Nikolai Birkov, had been captured. NBC’s affiliate WPTV said the pursuit lasted about an hour and a half.
The suspect was not armed during the incident.
Since Birkov insisted he did not speak English, a Russian interpreter from the Ministry of Homeland Security arrived on the scene and translated the investigation and assisted.
At a press conference Tuesday, the sheriff’s office said Wilkov’s wife and daughter, who had legally left the country to return to Russia, have not yet been questioned about additional information about the suspect.
Wilkov will serve his sentence before he is deported, the sheriff’s office said.
