Gainesville, Fla. (WFLA) – A beloved dog named Rothco has safely found his way home on Monday with the help of an Alachua County deputy.
The bodycam video showed the moment when Deputy Maherer discovered Rothko wandering in the middle of Tower Road. The sheriff’s office said Rothko “apparently isn’t uncertain because he’s scared of where to go.”

Deputy Maherer leaned down and called out the dog to him. Hesitant at first, Rothko eventually comes to the lieutenant and allows Mailer to keep him.
“Hey, how are you, puppy dog?” Vice President Meurer said while looking at information about Rosco’s collar.
He then lets Rothco jump behind the police car and they set out for a fun unification.
The owner of Rothco thanked the assistant mailer many times after seeing the dog climb from the police car. The owner explained that Rothko was able to escape from a hole in his fence.
“With caution and patience, Deputy Maherer was able to guide Rothko safely from the harmful way and reunite with his grateful family,” the Sheriff’s Office said. “Early moments like these are reminders that protecting our community can have four legs and one tail.”
