VERO BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) — An 84-year-old and two sergeants were rescued after being stranded in the Fort Drummarsh area, the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office said.
The man went out to take photos in the protected area and “we lost our way and ultimately became disorientated,” BCSO said.
Deputies from the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office tried to find the man using a drone and a ground search, but due to a thick brush and a place that took several hours before he was discovered.
IRCSO Sergeants Luke Keppel and David Flores were able to find the man around 3am, but were unable to return to the night, BCSO said.
Just before sunrise on Monday, the crew managed to find the victim and two sergeants before going on multiple trips to get the three of them.
The video shows the rescuer found the man before he was caught in the helicopter.
“Together we can do great things,” BCSO said in a Facebook post.
The man was taken to a nearby hospital.
Brevard County Fire Rescue also supported the search, BCSO said.
