(Nexstar) – Dozens of Walgreens locations are preparing to close in the coming weeks and months as the pharmacy giant announced plans to close around 1,200 stores to turn around a struggling US business.
In October, Walgreens said there would be around 500 store closures for the fiscal year, but did not explain when the rest would occur.
However, as of Tuesday, some of the more than 8,000 stores have been marked online for imminent closures.

“This location will be closed forever on May 22nd. We apologize for the inconvenience. The banner on the Walgreens location page in East Haven, Connecticut provides customers with information regarding transferring prescriptions to another Walgreens.
The dates vary between affected stores, but there are two general groups. One will close next week, and the other will be set for late June.
Walgreens was unable to provide a list of closed stores and did not respond to Nexstar comments or requests for additional information.
However, an analysis by Nexstar found that 54 stores in 17 states are expected to close in the coming weeks.

As of Tuesday, Nexus Star closed out of Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arizona, Arkansas, Delaware, Hawaii, Idaho Iowa, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Maine, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Mississippi, Missouri, Nebraska Nebrada, New Hantana, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Utah, Vermont, Virginia, Wisconsin, or Wyoming Set.
If local Walgreens are closed or close immediately, the drugstore chain says they are ready to transfer their prescriptions to one of the other locations. This can be done during the refill process by updating auto-replenishing or using delivery options. Additional details can be found on the Walgreens website.
Some communities may get two punches of pharmacy closure. Rite Aid is preparing to close several locations, primarily in California and Pennsylvania, in its second bankruptcy filing.
Since filing for bankruptcy protection earlier this month, Rite Aid has shown that more than 100 stores are scheduled to close. Almost every store is also available for sale.
