ORMOND BEACH, Fla. (WFLA) – An Ormond Beach police officer has resigned in December after being accused of throwing a handcuffed woman onto the ground.
The incident began as a rapidly escalating DUI collision investigation, according to arrest reports.
The woman was taken to the Ormond Beach Police Station for a breathing test as 32-year-old former police officer Jacob Cannon pulled the woman towards him before slamming her into a chair against the wall.
A newly released surveillance video shows the incident, showing the moment when Cannon appears to lift a woman bleeding in handcuffs and bring the woman to the holding cells.
A pool of blood can be seen on the floor where the woman landed.
NBC affiliate WESH reported that Cannon had arrived to arrive and told fire department officials who had slipped, fell, fell, and tried to leave, then hit their head in the process, and arrived to treat the woman. In another contradictory story, he says she tried to accus him and fell.
The arrest report states that the woman will be treated at a nearby hospital and receive at least seven stitches, leaving behind permanent scars.
The Ormond Beach Police Chief told reporters that Cannon was a patrol officer for less than two years.
The Ormond Beach Police Department arrested Cannon on Jan. 31 and faces felony battery charges.
