DELTONA, Fla. (WFLA) — The Volsia Sheriff’s Office says it has been found that a 6-year-old girl and her dog were wandering alone in Deltena on Friday afternoon.

Deputies responded to a call from a woman who saw the child walking in her front yard and then said she was sitting in her carport.

The sheriff’s office said the woman and her neighbor brought food, water and clean clothes for the girl.

When asked by deputies where her mom and dad are, the little girl hears in the video saying that she was dropped off in the area as “they had to go somewhere.”

Deltona Fire Rescue also responded to the scene and checked her vitals to make sure she was OK.

The girl also said she would not attend school. Deputies later discovered that the family was homeless.

The child was taken to the Volusia Family Resource Center, where he contacted his grandparents to take her into custody.

Law enforcement was able to track down the girl’s mother and her boyfriend around 1am on Saturday, both of whom were charged with child escape and animal abandonment.
