In 2023, Pope Francis brought Prevost to the Vatican, leading the office leading bishop nominations from around the world to veterinarians. That excellence gave Prevul a benefit over other Pope candidates who enter the Conclave.
President Donald Trump congratulated the new Pope and expressed his excitement for the first American Pope.
Vance explained in a discussion with Sean Hannity of Fox News that the concept means families will come first, and neighbors, communities and the world that follows. Vance said immigration policies that prioritize illegal immigration over Americans do not follow “Old Amoris.”
Many experts considered the US Cardinal a dark horse in the election to become the next leader of the Catholic Church. Historically, the Cardinals voted for leaders of European countries, and 217 of the 267 Popes were from Italy.
The news of the US Pope has surprised many Americans, but Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson said he is proud that the new Pope was born in his city.
Notable Americans, including President Joe Biden, wanted the new Pope to succeed.
The new Pope was elected by 133 Cardinals who were isolated in the Sistine Chapel during the voting process. The Cardinals were not in contact with the outside world during the deliberations of the Conclave and were vowed to secret as part of the Pope election.
Longtime California lawmakers also praised the new Pope, who reflected the words Francis spoke on Easter Sunday before he passed away.
“God loves everyone,” Leo said in his first official duties as the new leader of the Catholic Church.
“Evil does not win. We are all in the hands of God,” he said.
Revered Catholic Secretary of State Marco Rubio explained that the historic moments have deep significance to the Catholic Church and offer new hope for the year 2025 Jubilee. The Catholic Church designates 2025 as a holy year representing the era of reflection and pilgrimage.
The new Pope is currently set to make his first appearance in a series.
