The country singer-songwriter says he wants to be flexible about what he and his wife teach their children.

Tyler Hubbard, a former frontman for country music duo Florida Georgia Line, has chosen a more hands-on approach by abandoning the traditional learning experience and deciding to homeschool children.

In an interview with “US Weekly,” released on March 28th, the 38-year-old explained what led him and his wife, Hayley Hubbard, into their decision.

“I didn’t feel that the traditional approach to schooling was probably the same for me or for my children,” he said.

“When I was growing up, I didn’t feel it was for me. They were in cool Montessori school for a while and they liked it, but I feel like I have that aspect of flexibility and in our lives.”

Hubbard is grateful to have three children, Olivia, 7, Luka, 5 and Atlas (5 years old) with his wife of 10 years and be able to choose what and how they are being taught together to create better and more fulfilling time.

“It felt like an opportunity we really wanted to do because it’s something that we can teach our kids the lives and most of the early stages,” he added.

The country’s homeschool population has more than doubled since 2003, according to the National Home Education Research Institute.

As of 2022, there were approximately 3.1 million homeschool students, compared to 1.4 million in 2003. In 2021, there was a pandemic peak of 3.7 million people.

The overall academic performance of homeschooled children is 15th-25th percentile points than public school students on standardized academic tests, the group reports on its website.

Hubbard is best known for his hits “Meant To Be”, “Holy” and “Cruise” and rose to fame alongside bandmate and vocalist Brian Kelly on the group “Florida Georgia Line.”

The duo sold over 4.6 million albums worldwide, and sold 16 No. 1 singles before announcing the break in 2022, and announced an irregular break from the tour.

Hubbard embarked on a solo career, signing a new recording deal with Emi Records Nashville in the same year, and in January 2023 he released his debut solo single “5 feet 9” with his debut album.

Recently, he teamed up with Polaris, the industry leader at Powersports, after becoming interested in snowmobiles.

“I actually went into the snowmobile world in Idaho a bit. The truth is, my wife grew up and I met some of the guys there,” he said.

“I’ve started renting snowmobiles a few times now. I recently teamed up with Polaris, and I continued to further my passion for snowmobiles and everything that comes with motors.”

So, Hubbard expressed his eagerness to teach his children both inside and outside of “motor, sports and recreational activities,” but he credited his wife for taking the reins of education.

“She interacts with all levels of life, and it’s cool to see her take on this,” he said.

“It was certainly a commitment and it took a lot of time, attention and discipline. She really shines.”

Hubbard will compete on roads nationwide on the tour and will begin performances from April 1st to October this year.
