Merritt Island, Fla. (WFLA) – Two construction workers were killed when a crane collapsed in Florida on Wednesday.

Health first told NBC affiliate Wesh that a collapse occurred at the construction site on Bowman Drive.

Authorities said the collapse was due to “a serious weather-related incident at the construction site of Cape Canaveral Hospital.”

The National Weather Service said there were reports of gusts of winds about 50 mph at the time of the collapse.

The Brevard County Sheriff’s Office and the Occupational Safety and Health Department are investigating the incident.

Gilben, the construction management company for the project, said the workers were employed by Baker Concrete and another trade contractor.

“We share the deepest pathetic dol with our family, our loved ones and our colleagues,” a Gilben official said in a statement to WESH. “This site is safe and is currently suspended. We support trade contractors and cooperate with proactive investigations to understand the circumstances surrounding the incident.”
