President Trump threw his support behind Florida Sen. Joe Gluters (R) on Thursday, serving as the next head of the Republican National Committee (RNC), and current Chairman Michael Wayley will announce his Senate bid in the coming days.
Trump has approved Whatley’s candidacy for the North Carolina Senate in a true social post. Sources familiar with the issue confirmed early Thursday that Whatley was expected to run to his seat with Trump’s blessing.
“Mike will make an incredible senator from North Carolina,” Trump said of Whatley, who previously led the North Carolina GOP. “He’s great in everything he does, he’s certainly in the presidential election and we’ve won all the swing states, popularity votes, election colleges by landslide!”
“Fortunately, there are people who do a great job as chairman of the RNC,” Trump added. “His name is Joe Gluters and he will have my full and full approval, so if Michael Wayley runs for the Senate, please use this notice to express my full and full support.”
Gluters is a Trump ally who has been in the Florida Senate since 2018 and has been serving as RNC treasurer since the beginning of this year. Gluters clashed with Florida Governor Ron DeSantis (R), who was Trump’s bitter rival in the 2024 presidential primary.
The Gruters will need to be elected by RNC members to lead the organization, but they will probably not face competition with Trump’s support.
