The Kennedy Center is Washington’s premier performing arts center, and its board includes several cultural and political elites.

WASHINGTON – On February 7, President Donald Trump said he would fire the chairman of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Arts in Washington, DC, and several councillors, and nominate himself as the new chairman of the board.

Opened in 1971, the Kennedy Center is a major venue for Washington’s performing arts. Every year, we recognize our lifelong contributions to American culture and hold the Kennedy Center honors, one of the most prestigious performing arts awards in the United States. The Center includes several former officials designed by the Act of Congress, including the appointees of the US president and several former civil servants designed by the Act of Congress, Mike Johnson (R-La.), and Secretary Marco Rubio. is controlled by the board of directors including. , Senate majority leader John Tune (Rs.D.), and Washington Mayor Muriel Bowser.

On February 7, Trump announced in a post on True Society that he had rejected Chairman David Mark Rubenstein and other presidentially appointed members of the board. .

“In my direction, we will make the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC again great. I have multiple individuals from the board, including the chairman who does not share our vision for the golden age of art and culture. I decided to close it soon,” Trump wrote. “We’ll be announcing a new board meeting soon. Great Chairman, Donald J. Trump!”

Trump denounced the committee of condemned conduct for allegedly allowing a nasty performance at the Kennedy Center. “Last year, the Kennedy Center featured a drug show that was specifically targeted at our youth, which stops,” he wrote. “The Kennedy Center is an American gem and must reflect the brightest stars on stage from across the country. For the Kennedy Center, the best ones haven’t come yet!”

The fired chairperson, Rubenstein, is a billionaire who is co-chaired by the private equity firm Carlisle Group and owns the Baltimore Orioles, a major league baseball team. Rubenstein is one of Washington’s best-connected men and biggest philanthropists, and was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Joe Biden just before Biden resigned this year. Apart from the Kennedy Center, Rubenstein is chairman of the University of Chicago’s Board of Trustees and the Board of Directors of the Foreign Relations Council, and is the chairman of the Alfalfa Club, a private and exclusive group of high-ranking politicians and business leaders. .

Trump and Rubenstein had previously had close ties. In 2014, before announcing his presidential candidacy in the 2016 election, the chairman of the Washington, D.C. economic club also monitored Trump. During the interview, Trump signaled his intention to run.
It remains unclear who Trump has finished from the board and who will appoint him in his place. Before Trump’s post, the board’s presidential appointees already included several Democrats and Republicans, as well as Trump’s allies. Attorney General Pamela Bondi, singer and songwriter of “God The Usa” Lee Greenwood, former White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, and former Transport Secretary Elaine Chao (Mitch McConnell Sen. R-Ky.) His wife) and Mike Donilon, one of Biden’s longtime political advisors, are notable members.

The Kennedy Center did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
