The Department of Homeland Security recently revoked Harvard’s ability to recognize foreign students.
President Donald Trump proposed moving federal grants from Harvard University to fund trade schools in a May 26 post on social media platform Truth Social.
Trump’s statement regarding the transfer of Harvard funds comes amidst the nausea between the administration and the university over the issue of foreign students at the facility.
“On April 16, 2025 (DHS) Secretary (Kristi) Noem requested that Harvard University provide information on crime and misconduct of foreign students on campus. Secretary Noem warned that refusing to comply with this legitimate order will lead to the end of the SEVP.”
Harvard “brutally refused” to provide the requested information, leading to the government cancelling foreign admissions at the university, the DHS said.
“This revocation is a blatant violation of the First Amendment, Due Process Clauses and the Administrative Procedure Act. It is the latest government law in explicit retaliation for exercising Harvard’s initial amendment rights to reject Harvard’s governance, curriculum, and Harvard’s initial amendment rights to reject the government’s request to control Harvard’s governance, curriculum, and student ‘subsidy’. โ
On May 23, a federal judge issued an injunction blocking the DHS directive.
Harvard has registered nearly 6,800 international students from over 100 countries on Cambridge, Massachusetts and campus.
“Harvard is very slow to present these documents, and perhaps for good reason!” he wrote. “The best thing Harvard is doing is that they shop and found the absolute best judge (for them!) – but the government ultimately wins!”
Discrimination on campus
The Trump administration’s actions against Harvard are part of a broader crackdown on diversity, equity and inclusion policies. Anti-Semitism; Foreign influences in the US education system.
The university showed “intentional indifference” when Jewish students were harassed by other students on October 7, 2023, following the Hamas attacks and Israeli military action against Gaza.
Anthony Arquebar, acting director of the office, asked Columbia to “come to an agreement that reflects meaningful change that truly protects Jewish students.”
A Columbia spokesman told the Epoch Times via email that the university takes anti-Semitism issues seriously and is working with the government to address these issues.
“We understand that this discovery is part of an ongoing discussion with the government,” the spokesman said. “Columbia is deeply committed to combating anti-Semitism and all forms of harassment and discrimination on campus.”
The Epoch Times contacted Harvard to comment on Trump’s latest post, but did not receive a reply by the time of publication.
